Definition: Losers Bracket

The losers bracket (sometimes called the “lower bracket” or “elimination bracket”) is the part of a double elimination tournament where teams or players go after losing once. Here’s how it works: • Every team starts in the winners bracket. • If a team loses a game, they drop into the losers bracket instead of being eliminated immediately. • In the losers bracket, a second loss knocks them out of the tournament for good. • The winner of the losers bracket eventually faces the winner of the winners bracket in the finals.
