What is slowpitch softball?

Learn about the fundamentals and characteristics of this popular recreational sport

Understanding Slowpitch Softball

Slowpitch softball is a popular variation of baseball that emphasizes recreational play and social interaction. The main difference lies in the pitching style - the ball must be thrown in an arc between 6 and 12 feet high, making it easier to hit than baseball or fastpitch softball.

Unlike baseball, the softball is larger (11 or 12 inches in circumference) and the field dimensions are smaller, with bases typically 65 feet apart instead of 90 feet. Games are usually seven innings long, and teams often field 10 players instead of 9, with the additional player serving as a short fielder.

The sport is designed to be more accessible and enjoyable for players of all skill levels and ages. With its emphasis on hitting and fielding rather than pitching dominance, slowpitch softball promotes higher scoring games and more active participation from all team members.

Our Round Robin Generator creates fair, balanced schedules for any number of teams. Just enter how many teams you have and we'll produce a complete schedule where every team plays every other team. It's perfect for regular season play or round robin stages of tournaments — and it's completely free.
The Tournament Bracket Generator lets you create professional single or double elimination brackets. Choose your format, enter your team names, and get a ready-to-use bracket you can print or share. Great for playoffs, one-day tournaments, or any elimination-style competition.
The Budget Generator helps you plan the finances of your tournament or league.
