Definition: Ground Rule Double

Definition: A base award that grants the batter-runner two bases due to the ball leaving the field of play in fair territory (e.g., bouncing over the fence). Rule/Context Note: The batter and all runners are awarded two bases from the time of the pitch. The ball is dead. When It Matters: Scoring plays near the boundary, home run restrictions.
