Definition: Foul Tip

Definition: A batted ball that goes sharp and direct from the bat to the catcher's glove and is legally caught. Rule/Context Note: If the foul tip occurs on a third strike, the batter is out. If it is caught, it remains a live ball, and runners may advance. When It Matters: Strike count, runner advancement. Interlinks: Strike Zone • Live Ball • Caught Ball
