Safety Base (Double First Base)
๐
Definition
Definition: A double-sized base at first base, consisting of a white portion (fair territory) and an orange portion (foul territory).
Why It Matters: It is designed to prevent collisions. The fielder uses the white portion to record the out, while the runner must use the orange portion when running through the base.
Canadian Context: The safety base is mandatory in nearly all SPN, NSA, and SPO leagues. Failing to use the orange portion as a runner can result in an interference call or an out if the white portion is touched during a close play.
