Question

Is a softball harder than a baseball?

Last updated: September 6, 2025

Answer

Despite the name, a softball is not actually soft. Both baseballs and softballs have a hard core and a leather or synthetic cover.

A regulation softball is slightly softer to the touch than a baseball, but its larger size makes it feel heavier when caught or hit. In terms of injury risk, they both hurt the same if you get hit with one!
