Question
How do you decide when to throw to second base versus first base?

Answer
- Look for the Lead Runner: Always prioritize throwing out the lead runner unless you have no chance. A force out is generally easier than a tag out.
- Grounder to SS/3B: If the ground ball is hit to the shortstop or third baseman with a runner on first, the throw is almost always to second base for the force out.
- Grounder to 1B/2B: If the ball is hit to the first baseman or second baseman, the throw is usually to the closest base for the easiest out. Exception: A hard-hit ball to the second baseman with a slow runner on first often warrants a throw to first base.
