Definition: Baseball Statistics

Baseball statistics are the numbers used to measure how players and teams perform. They track things like: • Batting: how well a player hits (examples: AVG = batting average, HR = home runs, RBI = runs batted in). • Pitching: how well a pitcher throws (examples: ERA = earned run average, SO = strikeouts, W–L = wins and losses). • Fielding: how well players defend (examples: E = errors, FPCT = fielding percentage). • Team stats: runs scored, runs allowed, wins, losses.
