Foul Tip

Definition

Definition: A batted ball that goes sharp and direct from the bat to the catcher's glove and is legally caught. Rule/Context Note: The "Foul Tip" rule (third strike foul tip is an out, live ball) is typically a baseball/fastpitch rule. In most slo-pitch, a foul tip is treated as a dead ball foul, or the rule is superseded by a local "foul ball out" rule. When It Matters: Strike count, runner advancement (depending on specific league rule). Interlinks: Strike Zone โ€ข Live Ball โ€ข Caught Ball
